As a sample library, we wish to contribute to the project “Sprachräume – Büchereien für Integration” because…
… ”for several years, the Protestant Public Library at the Gebrüder-Grimm-School has been cooperating with the school, on whose grounds it is housed in a pavilion. 90 % of its pupils have an immigration background. They come from 19 different countries.
The library team endeavours to to provide these children reading skills and enjoyment of the German language. There are 225 multilingual children’s books already available at the library. Several activities and offerings take place on a regular basis, for example: individual reading promotion on the recommendation of the respective teacher, Antolin- point collecting on a library computer and school lending during class time. On top of that, several activities were implemented in collaboration with the school, for example: reading a book together in German (library team) and the native language (mothers).
These successful events helped us gain good experience, which we would love share in the context of this project. Nevertheless, the learning process is not yet completed for us. We would like to get in contact with the adult family members of "our" schoolchildren but also with newcomers from other countries and cultures."
